Cheap Desktop Computer for Everyday Use?
hey everyone
i have a hp laptop right now, and i’m thinking about getting a new desktop for my home. it will be for my mother so i don’t need a powerful system. the most important thing is that i need a system for under $300 (w/ monitor). here’s what i need:
1) meet windows xp system requirements (i have the operating system myself)
2) good for surfing web, using skype, downloading (running for long hours time to time)
3) support high speed usb (for copying files to my external hdd, i can connect my printer to it)
4) support lan (connecting my modem and laptop to it)
4) can handle simple application like microsoft word, adobe acrobat, etc.
5) have a dvd drive (not necessarily a burner)
6) can play music and videos (i don’t want to play h.264 videos! just online radios and simple mp3 files)
7) a simple 15-17" lcd monitor (don’t need widescreen)
9) i don’t want a gaming system or media player system
i also don’t need any software or operating system (got them all). if it’s cheaper, i can assemble it myself.
please just suggest a system or give me the hardwares list so i can assemble it myself.
again i need an additional system for simple tasks for around $300.
i’d appreciate that if someone can give me a good answer
p.s. i just came to us. what’s the deal for black friday and all the sales (after thanksgiving). can i find a better offer then? i live in dc area.
i checked dell & hp website. they’re all expensive. about the price i can go up to $400.
actually, i can work with a regular CRT monitor too, but i assumed they are the same price as LCD.
also, i don’t need any software, because i already have them and i don’t want to pay extra.
Erm try Dell, but if not just go straight to Ebay. $300 is very little for a pc when you want a lcd monitor as well. Best of luck

$300 is a bit of a stretch, but above is a link to the place I get my stuff. As for basic apps, I use Openoffice. It does everything Microsoft Office will, and then some, even export to Microsoft formats. Free. Download at openoffice.org.
